Desperate to support my family and keep food on the table, I took a job working as a driver for a wealthy widow.
Espiode 2.
The moment I read the first sentence, I froze.
“Chinedu, if you are reading this, then everything has happened exactly the way I expected.”
My hands began to tremble.
I looked around the empty workshop, then back at the note.
“First, let me tell you something important. You did not steal my brooch. I know that because I still have it.”
I read the line three times before it finally sank in.
My heart pounded against my chest.
If she knew I was innocent, then why had she humiliated me in front of her children?
Why had she fired me?
I continued reading.
“For months, I have watched my children closely. They think I am old and weak. They believe I do not notice what happens inside this house. They are wrong.”
A chill ran down my spine.
The note continued.
“Over the past two years, money has disappeared from my accounts. Important documents have gone missing. Personal belongings have been taken from my room. Every time something vanished, my children blamed a member of staff.”
I swallowed hard.
Desperate to support my family and keep food on the table, I took a job working as a driver for a wealthy widow.
