The flight attendants were still giggling at the back of the plane when Sofía’s phone vibrated silently in her lap.
One new message.
From her mother, Valeria Rivera:
“Done. Captain has been informed. Ground team is waiting. Stay calm, mi reina. They will all be escorted off the plane in handcuffs of shame.”
Sofía didn’t smile. She simply squeezed her grandmother’s hand tighter.
Fifteen minutes later, the captain’s voice came over the intercom, unusually serious:
“Ladies and gentlemen, due to a serious incident involving crew misconduct in first class, we will be making an unscheduled priority landing in Cancún. Please remain seated.”
Lorena Salgado’s confident smile finally faltered. She walked quickly toward seat 2A, her face pale.
“Little girl, what did you do?” she hissed, trying to keep her voice low.
Sofía looked up at her with those cold, unblinking eyes.
“I told you,” she said softly. “You made my grandmother cry. Now you’re all fired.”
Lorena laughed nervously. “You’re nine years old. You can’t fire anyone.”
At that exact moment, the senior purser received a call from airline headquarters. The entire crew watched as her face turned white. She lowered the phone and stared at Lorena in disbelief.
“Lorena… the owner of the airline just called. They received a direct order from the Rivera family. The entire first-class crew is to be terminated immediately upon landing. Security and the press will be waiting.”
The cabin went deathly quiet.
One flight attendant started crying. Another looked like she might faint.
