The hospital security officer cleared the room, keeping Margaret and William at a distance. Valentina cradled Leo against her chest, her resolve solidifying. She needed a plan, and she needed it fast.
After they left, she called her lawyer, her voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through her veins. “We need to freeze Christopher’s assets and prevent any interference with custody. And I want the divorce papers nullified immediately.”
Her lawyer paused, then said, “Valentina, given your inheritance, you’re in a very strong position. Christopher and his family can’t touch a dime without your consent.”
A wave of relief washed over her. She finally felt a sense of control she hadn’t known she possessed.

Later that evening, Christopher appeared outside her hospital room. He looked disheveled, guilty, and anxious.
“Valentina… we can talk,” he said, voice low.

Christopher ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident. “Valentina, please… I made a mistake. We can fix this—”
“No,” she interrupted. “You can’t fix betrayal. You can’t threaten me or my child. You’ve lost your right to decide.”
For the first time, she saw fear in his eyes. The man who had once held all the power now realized that Valentina was untouchable, protected by her wealth and her resolve.
