Ingredients:
Serves 2–4
Main Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1½ cups milk (whole milk works best)
1 jar or packet (about 120 g) dried chipped beef
Black pepper, to taste
For Serving
4 slices bread, toasted
Optional Add-Ins
A pinch of nutmeg
A splash of cream
Peas or mushrooms
Fried egg on top
Instructions:
Prepare the beef
Chop the dried beef into small pieces. If it is very salty, soak it in warm water for 5–10 minutes, then drain well.
Make the roux
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
Make the sauce
Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook until thick and creamy.
Add the beef
Stir in the chopped beef and simmer gently for 3–5 minutes.
Season
Add black pepper to taste. Additional salt is usually not needed.
Serve
Spoon generously over hot toast and serve immediately.
